Hey Black Eyed Peas,.
So I'm listening to Elephunk, and I like it. [Insert a few other pleasant observations about the cd here.] But track #3 on the disk, as compared to the "Smash Hit Single!" bonus track amuses the fuck out of me.
I'm not particularly offended by the refrain "Let's get retarded in here." It makes perfect sense to me, and anyone who has seen a retarded person laugh should get it too. Often lacking even the slight inhibition in a child, it's the most free thing I've ever seen in my life and in my moments of deep depression I sometimes wish for head trauma. Not really. And I don't mind the refrain "Let's get it started in here" either. It seemed poppy and easily mass digested even before I'd heard what was presumably the original version, but it's still a fun enough song.
My problem is, if "Let's Get it Started" says what you wanna say, if you recognized that "Let's Get Retarded" might be offensive, or hurtful to those who've been getting retarded before getting retarded was cool (you poser), then why the fuck did you bother to release it? And, if it DOESN'T say what you mean, if "Let's Get Retarded" really captures your frame of mind, then didn't you just get PUNKED by a bunch of hanky wringing political correctness nazis?.
There's plenty of people whose entire repertoire is middle of the road, better play it safe may as well be Muzak bullshit, and you're not one of them. And I don't begrudge you making money. Go ahead and do, what is it, Target commercials? Go nuts. And after all, it was only one song. One song that you censored yourself on, in a profession where your job is to say what you mean..
Oh, I'm sorry, your job isn't to be honest? It's to entertain? I see. So, when do you open for Siegfried and Roy? I read that Roy can speak now..
Maybe he could be a guest vocalist on a live version of "Let's Get Retarded"
